During transportation, carriers, warehouse operators, freight forwarders, and other parties are responsible for the cargo, with their liability strictly limited by local and international laws. This liability can be significantly less than the value of the goods. Below are the rules and calculations for cargo coverage limits (according to the liability policies of the performers), calculated per kilogram of damaged or lost cargo.
Road transport according to the CMR Convention - limit 8.33 SDR per kg (approximately EUR 10);
Air transport according to the Warsaw Convention - limit 17 SDR per kg (approximately EUR 20);
Sea transport according to the Hague-Visby Rules - limit 2 SDR per kg (approximately EUR 2.5).
Rail transport according to the rules of the countries through which the transportation takes place.
Our company recommends that cargo owners insure their goods for the full value to avoid being dependent on the liability limits of the performers throughout the cargo's route. We offer our clients "ON LINE" cargo insurance for the full value, thanks to a direct contract with a European insurance company.
Benefits of cargo insurance:
The cargo owner is maximally protected against losses at all stages of transportation, not limited to the liability limits of partners. The insurance value of the cargo can also include delivery costs and other losses (up to 110% of the cargo value).
